Come on in guys! Boteti, if you take a look at Okavango, Brittany voted out at the first Tribal Council of the game. Today, Immunity is back up for grabs, winning tribe safe another few days here in Botswana.
Today's challenge is going to be fun and creative so get ready. Below, you will find a basic template which will serve as your canvas for this challenge. Each tribe must decorate their mannequin with a creative tribal mask. No holds barred. The only rule is that your mask must incorporate your tribe color in some way. The rest is left entirely up to artistic freedom.
Your tribe mask may not be any larger or smaller than the image provided to you, though a five-pixel leeway will be given in case you have re-sizing/cropping issues.
Based off the list each group created, each person on the tribe will meet on Skype with a Production member to participate in a semi-live competition. Each castaway will have ten minutes to work on their tribe mask whilst on Skype. On call they will decorate their mask however they see fit. After each member decorates (everyone has to add at least something to the mask) that will be your final submission. You must be on screenshare on the call so that production ensures you're doing to work during your time. After both tribes have had all nine members take part in their ten minute segment - the grading process will begin.
Three iSurv1vor Production members, two loyal alumni, and two people not associated with our community will make up a panel of judges in which to score this challenge. Their decision will be based on a scale between one (lowest) to ten (highest). Their criteria to base on will be entirely up to them. The identity of the panel will be revealed when the challenge results are posted. If your group is able to create the best-looking mask, within the given requirements, your group may win immunity.
The discussion & brainstorming portion of this challenge begins at 6pm EST and will last until 8pm EST. After that, Production will begin meeting with your tribe members, starting with #1 and making our way down. Production will always be at the same position with each tribe during this challenge, but keep in mind that anytime after 8pm EST, Production reserves the right to message you and begin your portion, so be ready.
Once production has met with all nine competing tribe members, your official mask will be completed and the grading portion will begin. Any questions please contact Production. For the second time this season, Immunity is up for grabs! Losing tribe will attend Tribal Council. iSurv1vors ready? Go!!

Come on in Boteti and Okavango, let's take a result at the results. Everyone put a lot of effort in, so let's see what we ended up with. First we will start with the Veterans: Next we have the rookies: Here is how both tribes describe their flags: Boteti: Our mask symbolizes unity within our tribe. It represents 10 diverse faces and people of power coming together to achieve success. Our mask is made of sections of our faces put together to represent one face, and one tribe: Boteti. The boteti green border holds our faces together to symbolize what makes us one(our tribe) Traditional African facial paint and serene Botswana terrain aid in its completion. Okavango: Our tribal war mask represents our tribe, Okavango, named after the largest delta in the Africa. By incorporating both our tribe color (purple) and the color blue, we pay homage to our traditional colors and to the watery delta that surrounds us. We are a tribe determined to succeed, our fight in this game represented by the war paint - using red tones we allude to the fire in us to win. The red represents not only our anger from losing the previous challenge, but also the blood of the enemy team which we'll proudly wear on our faces as a trophy of our win. Birds symbolize freedom and their ability to soar high, with our feathers we express our plans to soar above our competition. Each feather has one of our faces on it, we are gladiators. Whilst wearing our Okavango war mask in battle, the feathers remind us in the face of peril and fear, that we are never alone - our tribe mates are always with us. Now on to our judges!:
Judge 1: On initial viewing of the mask, it's striking! You're hit with green immediately and then on closer inspection you can see the different faces of the players merged together. I have to commend the scaling of the faces is near-perfect but (from my perspective) I can only see maybe eight clear identities? I know there are ten out there and there's no way excluding two from the mask would be intentional so that's poor eyesight on my part.
There is a rough feel to the mask, I would've liked to see more smoother textures and the head piece at the top is cut off and I'm assuming that wasn't meant to be. The pattern on the mask feels out of place for the region, feels more Polynesian when it should've been African.
The write-up was brief, it didn't have much bite to it and it wasn't really compelling.
Overall, a great effort and there isn't too much to fault. Great job, Rookies!
Judge 2: When you put the two masks next to each other, my eyes are drawn to yours. Personally I think that your mask had a much more overall smooth look to it. Parts of it are a bit rough to look at still, but I'm not sure you could make 10 people's features blend together in a 100% smooth way. I love the idea of making sure it was clear that everyone was a part of the mask, but keeping it from being too busy!
Judge 3: First I have to say I was so impressed with both masks. It was very difficult to choose a higher score for one versus the other. That being said, it is a competition. I was drawn to the Boteti tribal mask. I felt the morphed face was very powerful and immediately read "we are one" to me. I really liked the story behind the Oka Vango but unfort. for me it didn't read immediate. I needed the story to understand the mask. But honestly great job to both with the time restrictions you had!!! (This comment was made for both tribes)
Judge 4: The mask seems to go slightly over the dimensions but it's not so much that it seems exceptionally obvious so that's not too bad. I find your explanation a bit lacking but I prefer that to explanations that overcompensate since those seem disingenuous. It does seem like there was minimal effort in the division of tasks here, but I feel like a lot of effort would have gone into each person's attempt seeing as it would be difficult (at least for me) to get the precise dimensions of all those face pics. I also really love how they all blend together pretty well except for obvious tone differences which I won't give anyone too hard a time on since I know I'm not a photoshop wizard and there are time constraints. Overall I just think it's much more visually appealing in its simplicity.
Judge 5:I think this tribe had a clever idea with putting all of the faces together as one with the green border, but I don't think it was very original. I also think their write up wasn't as detailed as the other tribe, so it's hard to like this one as much. ;(
Judge 6: I think the Boteti tribe masks idea is outstandin. Not so awesome in execution, but I'll give them creativity points
Judge 7: I really like the way that they combined their faces for the mask
Points:
1) 8
2) 8
3) 9
4) 8
5) 4
6) 8
7)9
54/70
Now we'll hear from the judges on the Veterans tribe!
Judge 1:I was drawn to the top half of the mask immediately, but for a bad reason. There's a lot of space that was created and then never really utilised. The tribal symbols were a nice feature but much like the Rookies it doesn't really match the symbolism of the region, props to using the shade of purple on your tribe.
The mask itself feels as though it's turned to the left and it leaves soooo much space on the right! The feathers are a nice touch, but three of them don't fit in the frame and also they're also different sizes... it would've looked better had the feathers been more prominent and evened out, the top of the mask is completely baron! It's like a middle aged man was immortalised.
The write-up was decent, definitely the strongest part of your presentation but the Gladiators term is more used in the Roman/Greek regions. Just a nitpick but if you swapped that word out for Warriors or whatever then it would've engaged me more.
I did want to like this more, I did! It felt like there was a plan and then halfway through it was skewered and ultimately the big facial components don't compliment each other. Give this tribe another 12 hours then it could've had more potential.
Judge 2:You guys had a lot of great ideas but for me this mask is too busy for my liking. All of the ideas you had and put to use were great, but they did not mesh well together. I think that there was more of a gap between the times your members participated, which led to more confusion, lack of communication on what you all exactly wanted to see as your finished project.
(same comment for both)
Judge 4: First of all... the mask is larger than the provided image. So... good job there. You have your color at least. The mask seems pretty "safe" overall and to be honest... ugly. I can't really tell how people would have divided their tasks up here. Did one person do one color stripe and someone do the other? I don't know. Regardless, in additon to that, your explanaton for it is one of the most clichéd things ever written. Red for anger! Feathers because we soar! The whole thing is overcompensating for an uninspired flag. Very Negara of you.
Judge 5: I love the way the tribe incorporates each color they used and the feathers with something, and how it represents their tribe as a whole. The birds symbolizing the freedom and using the feathers for the images is badass. They also took a lot of time with their writeup which I love. <3
Judge 6: I think Okavango looks kinda cartoonish. It looks like a creepy creature you'd find on a kids tv show speaking yogabbagabba.
Judge 7: The tribal paint you did on the mouth and the forehead is pretty badass. the mouth you guys chose is pretty cool, I also like the war paint and I also enjoy the bright blue eye brows. The nose and the eyes are a little subdued by comparison, kinda keeps it from coming together a little
POINTS:
1) 5
2) 6
3) 7
4) 2
5) 7
6) 5
7) 7.5
39.5/70
and with that Boteti wins immunity!
Okavango, you know what that means. We'll see you at tribal council.
